John C Bartholome, "Coach Bart"

John C. Bartholome, a teacher and coach for 35 years, died June 17, 2018 at home after a battle with cancer. He was 90 years old. John is survived by his loving wife, Edith; daughter, Sandy; granddaughter, Mei Li; and sister, Stella. John was born in Regent, North Dakota and moved to California in the 1950s. Affectionately known as "Coach Bart," he inspired generations of students, coaches and teachers at Herbert Slater Middle School in Santa Rosa, where the gymnasium was dedicated and named for him in 2012. In addition to being a Navy veteran and an active member of the Knights of Columbus, John was one of the founders of Camp Wa-Tam in Santa Rosa, which is still going strong 60 years later. John graduated from Dickinson State University and coached several successful football and basketball teams in local high schools in the early 50's. Coach Bart was deeply loved and will be greatly missed. A private family service is planned. Memorial donations may be made in his name to the Herbert Slater Middle School Athletic Department, Santa Rosa, CA.
