High school athletes of the week - Trinity defensive line
The Dickinson Trinity defensive line helped the Titans defeat the Des Lacs-Burlington Lakers 40-0 in the Class A quarterfinals 40-0, earning their sixth shutout on the season on Saturday, Oct. 28 at the Biesiot Activities Center. Furthermore, lineman Jacob Kubas sacked Lakers quarterback Dante Gunville in the third quarter, allowing lineman Logan Karsky to pick up the ball and run over 50 yards to the end zone.
DP: You guys have had six shutouts so far this season. Why were you successful?
Logan Karsky: "I think a big part of it is discipline, everybody playing their position, not getting out of position and not doing other guys' jobs for them."
Isaac Fridrich: "It was just overall playing as a team. Our team work is the biggest thing. If you don't play as a team then nothing will work out the way you want it."
DP: How has practice influenced the way you play in the game?
IF: "It all comes down to focus and effort. What you want to put into practice is what you're going to end up coming out and playing with. I think that our games really prove how well we've been practicing lately. Overall I just think we've had pretty good practice season and that shows on the field."
Jacob Kubas: "(Our scout team) gives us a pretty stellar look most of the time. Almost every week they give us the best look they can get to replicate the other team. Throughout practice we work on fundamentals and just knowing what to do in certain situations.
DP: If you could have one superpower what would it be?
IF: "Probably super speed. Being as big as I am, I'm not the quickest guy so it'd feel nice to be able to run with everyone else. I mean if you can run as fast as you can then no one can really see you."
LK: "I've got to go with super speed. If you have super speed you've got all the other superpowers you could want. You can run across the oceans. If you're fast enough you can get some wings hooked up so you can fly."
JK: "I'm going to have to go with super strength. It helps with football, you can move kids a lot easier."
Alija Karsky: "I'm just going to have to go with flying because honestly who wouldn't want to fly?"
DP: What sort of activities are you involved in at school?
AK: "I'm in choir, drama. I do science olympiad. I'm in basketball, football and track."
LK: "I am in drama, football, hockey and (Future Business Leaders of America)."
