Man admits in North Dakota courtroom to sexually abusing girl for nearly four years
WILLISTON, N.D. - A 46-year-old man admitted Tuesday that he sexually abused a girl for nearly four years.
Patrick Martinez pleaded guilty, Dec. 4, to continuous sexual abuse of a child, a class AA felony, as well as manufacturing a controlled substance, a class B felony, possession of child pornography, a class C felony and two drug-related misdemeanors. The guilty pleas were not part of an agreement with prosecutors, which means Martinez could be sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Martinez was arrested Oct. 25 and accused of sexually abusing a girl on multiple occasions between August 2014 and earlier this year. Police said a search of his phone also turned up nude photos of the girl, who is now 16 and was 12 when she said the abuse began.
In addition to the maximum life sentence, a charge of continuous sexual abuse of a child carries a mandatory minimum of five years of supervised probation after release and mandatory lifetime registration as a sex offender.
Sjue ordered a presentence investigation for Martinez, with a possible sentencing date of March 13.
